ESS 331 - Geomorphology and Soils


(Formerly GEO 331). Grades of C (2.0) or better in ESS 150  or ESS 151 , MTH 120  and PHY 143 . (3).

Introduction to geomorphology, the study of landforms and the processes that produce and modify them. Emphasis on the mechanics of geomorphic processes and on the relationships between properties of earth materials and the forces applied to them by gravity, wind, ice, water, waves and humans. The lectures address the conceptual basis of geomorphology, while the assignments are practical and empirical. Application of the scientific method in the laboratory and the field adhering to laboratory and field health and safety protocols.
