The Mathematics Education for Elementary and Early Child Educators program, leading to a Master of Arts degree, is designed for educators of Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 children who seek to become elementary Mathematics Specialists. Minimal prior knowledge of mathematics is required, as the program includes both an extensive in-depth study of elementary mathematics as well as pedagogy methods. This 35-credit cohort program complies with the Standards for Elementary Mathematics Specialists of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE). Students who complete the first 20 credits (14 months) of the program earn a university certificate, and those completing the remaining 15 credits (16 additional months) earn a master’s degree.
Courses are offered for the working professional through a mixture of two-week face-to-face summer sessions and Fall and Winter classes combing online and in-person meetings.
