Education (Education Specialist)

Program Overview

The Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree program consists of 30 credit hours and is made up of four components:

  • Core Courses (12 credits)
  • Coursework in either Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership (9 credits)
  • Practicum (6 credits), tailored to the needs of each student
  • Capstone seminar (3 credits)

The program is designed to be completed in 18 months, consisting of two courses each semester beginning in the fall and culminating with the final practicum and capstone course the following winter.  The on-campus component involves a full day meeting one Saturday a month for the duration of the program.  The remaining content and work are delivered online.

EDL 703 - Survey of Advanced Leadership.  (3)

Spring/Summer Semester
Curriculum and Instruction:
EDL 740 - Curriculum Design.  (3)
EDL 741 - Instructional Approaches.  (3) 
or
Educational Leadership:
EDL 750 - Topics in Educational Leadership and Administration.  (3)
EDL 751 - Topics in Executive Leadership.  (3)

Fall Semester II
Curriculum and Instruction:
EDL 742 - Program Evaluation.  (3)
EDL 761 - Practicum I.  (3)
or
Educational Leadership:
EDL 752 - Advanced Supervision.  (3)
EDL 761 - Practicum I.  (3)

Winter Semester II
EDL 762 - Practicum II.  (3)

Transfer of Credit

Up to six semester graduate credit hours earned at an accredited institution following completion of an MA or MS degree may be accepted for transfer. All credit transfers must be approved by the program director
