Overview of current approaches to methods and assessments of literacy development of PK-6 students. Assessment-focused planning and instruction for students with diverse literacy abilities and needs; use of informal and formal assessment materials to analyze literacy strengths and difficulties. Teacher candidates develop an assessment portfolio and a case study report on differentiated instruction and support of literacy development for individual students.
