Overview of urban cultures and inequalities. General topics include the social, cultural and economic effects of segregation, deindustrialization, and gentrification. Debates and research on public space, citizenship and diversity in urban settings. Analysis of alternative policies and urban cultures, their role and importance in shaping the social fabric of cities in the United States and around the world.  Also listed as SOC 344 .
