The MA in Social Sciences supports the missions of the University of Michigan-Flint and the College of Arts and Sciences by offering education to students within the service area, particularly those with complex lives. The program provides post-baccalaureate education in a field of study especially important for in-service teachers and administrators. The program also provides opportunity to students wishing to pursue a Ph.D. program in the social sciences after completion of the Master’s degree.
Program Mission and Assessment
The Mission of the Master of Arts in Social Sciences is to prepare students who have an enhanced understanding of the social sciences, within and beyond the traditional scope of the United States and Europe. Graduates of the program should be able to: critically analyze primary and secondary texts; construct theses and arguments in the social sciences; interpret social science research; use appropriate documentation style; and write critically and analytically. The Program participates in the University-wide effort to assess its academic programs. Information on assessment plans, including goals, methods and outcomes is available at http://www.umflint.edu/assessment/.
Transfer Credits
Up to six (6) semester credit hours of graduate credit completed at an accredited institution may be accepted for transfer. Information on requesting transfer of credit is available at http://www.umflint.edu/resources/pdf/grad-programs/TransferCreditForm.pdf.
