Accreditation

The University of Michigan-Flint/Hurley Medical Center Anesthesia Program is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), 222 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068; ph. (847) 655-1160. The next scheduled accreditation review will take place in 2024.

Transition to Doctorate

All students matriculating into an anesthesia program on or after January 1, 2022 must be enrolled in an accredited doctoral curriculum. The University of Michigan‐Flint Anesthesia Program is currently applying for COA approval to transition the Master of Science curriculum to a Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program for all students beginning the program in fall 2018. Students beginning the program in fall 2017 will comprise the final Master of Science in Anesthesia cohort at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Master of Science in Anesthesia (MS)

The Master of Science in Anesthesia is offered in partnership with Hurley Medical Center to support graduate education for nurse anesthetists and provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide quality anesthesia care and service. This joint mission is predicated on the common goals of the University of Michigan-Flint and Hurley Medical Center to provide quality education, research and clinical service for the community. The MS curriculum combines intensive didactic coursework with concurrent clinical practicums. Courses are taught at Hurley Medical Center and the University of Michigan-Flint. Anesthesia Program faculty and staff are highly dedicated to graduates’ achievement of full professional competency.

Doctor of Anesthesia Practice (DrAP)

The Doctor of Anesthesia Practice is a completion degree for practicing CRNAs. The program prepares the CRNA for expanded and/or specialized leadership roles within the complex field of health care. A dual degree DrAP-MBA program is available for the CRNA seeking to further pursue business aspects of anesthesia.
