School of Management (SOM)

The Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program has a strategic focus and identity. Strategy of the firm and firm performance in a global economy is the common theme that runs throughout the program. Strategy is interdisciplinary; hence the program draws seminars from various business disciplines. This unique focus offers the program a distinct identity that differentiates it from other professional doctorate in business administration programs.

The focus of the curriculum is to offer an applied research model. All seminars will focus on a theory-to-practice model. The program develops and graduates scholar-practitioners who will be thought-leaders in practice.  The program targets:

  • Mid-level managers and executives wishing to upgrade skill sets in order to be effective executive thought leaders
  • Consultants and analysts wishing to learn theoretical concepts and ideas as scholar-practitioners
  • College lecturers wishing to learn applied research and earn a doctorate degree in order to transition to full-time academia

The program offers the following opportunities:

  • Learning new approaches in problem solving to analyze and make evidence-based decisions:
    • Intensive training in theoretical design and application, and qualitative and quantitative research methods - from asking the right questions to providing actionable insights and data-driven decisions.
    • Practice in communicating outcomes of research projects in writing and presentations.
  • Improved networking, team working, personal effectiveness, and communication amongst a high-quality cohort of like-minded business leaders.
  • Informed approaches to firm challenges relating to practical issues concerning strategy and organizational performance, with guidance expanding intellectual knowledge, research acumen, and leadership capabilities by leveraging theory and analytics to better inform strategy.
  • Integration of theory and practice to conduct applied, action-based, strategy research as global-minded problem solvers.
  • Personal development through intellectual growth and prestige achievement; the letters and the knowledge signifying the attainment of something special few working professionals/executives would even attempt.
  • Advanced career and/or promotional prospects:
    • Establishment or strengthening of one’s position within industry and associated work
    •  A broadened repertoire of theoretical models/frameworks and methodological techniques that provide a new perspective concerning engaged action research in the profession.

The three year, year-round, cohort-based part-time program is an online with synchronous components. The first two years consist of seminars; the last year consists of dissertation work.
