The Master of Science in Health Services Administration consists of a series of “stackable” graduate certificates, chosen under the direction of faculty advisors and taken individually or in tandem, to tailor or individualize a course of study that meets the individual student’s educational and professional needs. The certificate programs are offered by the College of Health Sciences in collaboration with other schools/colleges.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or business-related field, or another fields with at least 2 years of health-sector work experience, with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Satisfactory completion of the application including a personal statement and a resume
Three letters of recommendation including one from the employer, for students using health-sector work experience to gain entry
Minimum overall graduate GPA of 3.0, for students seeking to transfer graduate certificate program credits to the program

Admission Options
Students may apply to the MS in Health Services Administration degree program before having completed any graduate certificate(s); students who have completed or are currently working on UM-Flint graduate certificates may apply and request that those credits be applied toward the MS in Health Services Administration degree.

Time Limit for Degree Completion
Graduate certificates applied to the MS in Health Services Administration degree must be completed within five years. Students whose completed certificates exceed this five-year time limit must petition the academic standards committee in order to have those certificates count toward degree requirements.

At least 30 credits with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0, to include:

B. Capstone Project or Experience (3 credits)

A culminating project or experience that synthesizes concepts from the separate certificates, approved by the advisor. In consultation with the faculty advisor and other faculty members, students will determine the appropriate culminating experience for their needs. When appropriate, faculty from other units may serve as project mentors and collaborators for this experience.

Additional Requirements

A minimum of 9 credits in the program must be completed at UM-Flint.
Courses required for more than one certificate count for credit toward the degree only once.
Coursework older than 3 years must be reviewed by the Public Health and Health Sciences Department for content alignment with current certificate requirements, and certificates earned more than 5 years in the past may not be applied to the degree; any exception must be reviewed and determined by the departmental/programmatic home of the degree.
Students who received credit for undergraduate courses with graduate course equivalents cannot receive graduate credit for those courses. In this case, students will work with their faculty advisors to select appropriate courses from the list of approved electives/substitutions provided by the faculty delivering instruction.
