The University of Michigan-Flint School of Nursing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Pediatric/Adolescent undergraduate certificate is designed for Registered Nurses (RNs), as well as students in the UM-Flint Nursing RN to BSN program, Nursing Master of Science program, or Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

The certificate prepares students for positions as a Pediatric/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). Upon completion of the coursework and the required number of clinical hours, the student is prepared to take the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) SANE-P certification exam.

The certificate may be earned in conjunction with a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, or as a stand-alone credential. (Students pursuing a stand-alone credential are not eligible for federal financial aid and may not participate in Commencement.) After the student applies for graduation, the certificate is posted to the student’s official transcript and an official diploma stating the area of the certificate is issued.

Admission Requirements

Prospective students not in the UM-Flint RN to BSN, MSN, or DNP program must file an application to the University of Michigan-Flint through the University’s Office of Undergraduate admissions (http://www.umflint.edu/admissions) and satisfy the following requirements:

  • At least two years of nursing practice

Additional Requirements

A minimum of 9 credits in the program must be completed at UM-Flint.

Coursework older than 3 years must be reviewed by the Nursing Department for content alignment with current certificate requirements.
