Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSE)

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) brings together computing and electrical engineering in a way that embodies the science and technology of design, construction, implementation and maintenance of software and hardware components of modern computing systems, computer-controlled equipment, and networks of intelligent devices.  ECE is the computing discipline that explicitly focuses on the development of hardware and software interface as a hardware-embedded element of a computing system, and enables graduates to analyze and design circuits, manage the design of computer hardware components, and develop networking hardware solutions.  ECE also provides excellent preparation for the design and development of modern technologies that tightly integrate the physical world with the world of the artificial.  

The ECE MSE degree responds to the growing needs of interconnected sectors of science and technology and educates highly-competitive researchers and professionals in the fields of electrical and electronic engineering.

The degree is awarded upon successful completion of a minimum of 32 credits.

Admission Information

Transfer of Credit

With approval of the Engineering Graduate Coordinator, students may transfer in, or elect as graduate non-candidates for degree (NCFD), up to six credits of graduate-level courses in engineering.  See Transfer of Credit in the Graduate Study section for more information.

Requirements


A minimum grade of B (3.0) is required in each course:

A. Track of Choice (12 credits)


Three courses from one of the following tracks:

Three additional courses from one of the following concentrations:

C. Option of Choice (8 credits)


One of the following options:

Thesis Option


Eight credits in thesis research, consisting of a research project with a final thesis paper and an oral defense.

Non-Thesis Option


Two additional courses from the concentrations above or in graduate-level AUE, CSC and/or EGR courses approved by graduate advisor


Minimum Credits for the Degree: 32 credits
