Communication Studies Program (BA)

The General Program in Communication Studies offers students liberal arts coursework as a supporting program for careers in communication, including but not limited to communication training and development, media, law and public relations, as well as graduate study.

Requirements


No more than 50 credits in Communication may be counted towards the BA degree.

A. Foundations


A foreign language course from ARB 112 ASL 112 CHN 112 FRN 112 GER 112 SPN 112 ; or successful transfer of the second semester of a foreign language or demonstration of equivalent proficiency by examination

A course in US Diversity (US) or Global Studies (GS)  

C. Areas of Communication (21 credits)


D. Cognate


To increase the student’s ability to understand and apply Communication and to see its interdisciplinary nature, a block of courses outside the Communication program, fulfilled in any of the following ways:

  • Four courses (12 credits), chosen with the approval of the student’s advisor, in one or more disciplines
  • A certificate
  • A minor
  • A second major

E. Additional Requirements


All University General Education  and graduation requirements  

All CASE BA general degree requirements  

At least 25 hours of coursework toward the major taken at UM-Flint

A GPA of at least 2.5 in the major at time of graduation


Minimum Credits for the Degree: 120 credits

Honors Program


All bachelor-degree-seeking students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply to the University of Michigan-Flint Honors Program .  Please contact the Honors Program Manager or the Honors Program Director for further information.
