The Master of Science in Applied Finance (MSAF) program is designed for those seeking to take their quantitative capabilities in finance to the next level.  Financial leaders seeking to enhance their decision-making skills will benefit from cutting-edge training in financial management, applied statistics and quantitative methods, data analytics and financial modeling, investment analysis, and portfolio management.  The MSAF program allows participants to specialize in the education best suited to their career needs, with concentrations in either on corporate finance or investment. Throughout the program, students learn how to capitalize on opportunities in the global financial market.

Admission Information

The Graduate Programs Office serves as the primary source of information for all prospective graduate students, providing detailed guidance and resources to facilitate the application process.  Up-to-date and comprehensive details regarding admissions procedures, requirements and deadlines can be found on the program page on the Graduate Programs  website.

Transfer of Credit

Transfer credit is limited to a maximum of nine credits, completed in the last 5 years with grades of B (3.0) or better during enrollment as a graduate student at an AACSB-accredited program, and not part of the requirements of another degree.  Exceptions to this rule are made only in unusual circumstances and then only by approval of the SOM Graduate Programs Committee.  See Transfer of Credit in the Graduate Study section for additional information on University of Michigan-Flint policies regarding the transfer of graduate credit to its master’s degree programs.

Course Waivers

Course waivers are considered only at the time of admission to the MSAF Program. Equivalency is determined by AACSB-International accreditation status of the institution, or by the School of Management Graduate Programs Committee.  Grades in equivalent courses are also considered.  All graduate programs require a minimum of 30 graduate-level credits.  If required courses are waived, students can take a larger number of electives to complete the necessary 30 credits. No matter how many courses a student has from prior education, at least 21 credits must be completed in the UM-Flint program.

Time Limit for Degree Completion

All requirements must be completed within five calendar years of initial enrollment in the program.

Requirements

Concentration Courses (12 credits)
