Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Program Listings - Alphabetical

The Bachelor of Science in Accounting/Master of Science in Accounting program is designed for our undergraduate students who want to pursue a Master of Science in Accounting early in their education. The BS/MS joint program allows admitted undergraduate BS students to complete an MS degree with up to 9 fewer credits than pursuing the two degrees separately. Specifically, the program waives MS core courses and elective courses, based on the substitution of senior-level BS Accounting courses with corresponding graduate MS courses. Students should apply in their junior or senior year. Upon completion of the requirements for the BS portion of the program, the student is awarded the BS degree. Upon completion of the remaining 21 credits in the MS program, the student is awarded the MS degree. This bridging program is designed to allow students to move to study for a PhD or to start their future careers swiftly.

Requirements (141 credits)

Bachelor of Science in Accounting (120 Credits)

All requirements of the Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BS)  program, with the exception that the student substitutes 9 credits of courses in the major with corresponding courses at the graduate level. The list of corresponding undergraduate/graduate courses is subject to change but currently includes: ACC 325 /525 , ACC 420 /550 , ACC 422 /555 , ACC 423 /580 , ACC 425 /538 , ACC 426 /568 , FIN 467 /567

Master of Science in Accounting (30 Credits)

All the remaining requirements of the Master of Science in Accounting (MS)  program.

BS Accounting students waive the 6 credits of Foundation courses, ACC 521  and ACC 530 , as they have taken the equivalent courses ACC 201  and ACC 202  (for ACC 521 ) and ACC 321  and ACC 322  (for ACC 530 ) as BS Accounting core courses.

Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Requirements

To become a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Michigan and most other U.S. states, 150 hours of college credit, including appropriate coursework in accounting, is required. Those interested in taking the CPA exam and obtaining the CPA license should consult with their academic advisor about meeting these requirements, including fulfilment of any additional credit requirements through completion of the Master of Science in Accounting program
