Investigation of sampling theory, z-transforms, and other analytical tools used in the design and analysis of digital control systems. Topics include modeling and analysis of digital control systems, state space and input/output representation and analysis, emulation, I/O mapping, state feedback control, observer-based compensator design, state observer design, LQ optimum control, Kalman filtering, and LQG design; linear time-invariant (LTI) control system design and its expansions; quantization, sampling and noise; and implementation concerns in the controller design process.
