SWR 695 - Intervention and Evaluation Methods for Children and Adolescents in Schools Graduate standing. (3)
Investigation of various interventions used in school social work practice to meet the educational, social-emotional and mental health needs of students. Topics include primary system-wide interventions used in schools, including multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), and response to intervention (RTI); data-driven decision-making; and concepts related to social and school justice. Emphasis on creating anti-oppressive, trauma-informed and culturally responsive interventions in collaboration with others. Students learn how to create individual interventions for children and youth, family interventions, and system-focused interventions; create behavior intervention plans; conduct evidence-informed mental health interventions; engage in advocacy; and collaborate with students, caregivers and interdisciplinary school staff to implement individual, classroom-based, and schoolwide crisis interventions.
