Project-oriented laboratory in which students attempt to do a site-directed mutagenesis of a gene that codes for an enzyme, compare the physical and kinetic parameters of the mutated and wild type enzymes, and propose and test a hypothesis about how the mutation will affect the rate of enzymatic catalysis. Eight hours recitation/laboratory weekly. Not open to students with credit for CHM 453. Graded ABCDE
