Health information technology (HIT) consists of the entry, transmission, process, extraction, analysis, and exchange of health-related data and information utilizing the hardware, software, and healthcare enterprise. Health information technicians work in various healthcare entities; using software packages (i.e., EMR and EHR), they contribute to data collection, data management, and data security of patients and healthcare clients.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Information Technology curriculum uses the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) instructional module framework to prepare our students and alums to meet the standards and acquire the knowledge and skills to address the needs of the health care system and market considering the federal government guidelines and regulations in this field.
Mission Statement
The BS in HIT prepares students to apply Health Information Technology knowledge and skills in the healthcare system to enhance the quality of care and the quality of life of people.
For students seeking a graduate degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Management, this program prepares them to continue their education to a graduate program. Also, you can pursue a Public Health (MPH) program with a Health Administration track, a Health Care Management (MS) , and a Business Administration (MBA) program with a Health Management track at the University of Michigan-Flint.
