Requirements. At least 39 credits, as follows:

  1. Health education foundations (19-21 credits).
    HCR 500 - Epidemiology.  or HCR 501 - Seminar in Epidemiology. *  
    HED 540 - Health Education Theory and Strategies. 
    HED 541 - Program Planning and Program Design. 
    HED 542 - Administration and Management of Health Education Programs. 
    HED 543 - Community Assessment. 
    HED 544 - Psychosocial Aspects of Health. 
    HED 562 - Cultural Competence in Health Care. 
    *Students with grades of B (3.0) or better in PHS 315  may elect HCR 501  in place of HCR 500 .
  2. Methods (13 credits).
    HCR 506 - Research Methods.  / PUB 506 - Research Methods.   
    HED 545 - Health Communications.   
    HED 546 - Evaluation of Health Education and Promotion Programs. 
    HED 547 - Biostatistics for Health Professionals.  
  3. Electives (3 credits).
    Selected with advisor.
  4. Internship/Practicum (3-6 credits).
    HED 590  or HED 591 . The internship is not required of those currently in professional health education positions.
  5. Thesis Preparation Seminar (0-1 credit).
    HED 594  (optional).
  6. Capstone/Thesis (3 credits).
    HED 595  or HED 596 .
  7. Thesis continuation (1 credit per term beyond enrollment in HED 595  or HED 596 ).
    HED 597 .
     

Transfer of Credit
Up to six graduate credits from an accredited university may be transferred and applied to the program.
