Biology General Program (BS)

Biology Department information  

The Bachelor of Science Program is the program selected by most biology majors. This program is designed to prepare students for a number of potential careers (see Biology Web page) for entry-level employment or graduate and professional training in some sub-discipline of biology. The five core biology courses in the Bachelor of Science program provide a wide breadth of preparation for more advanced coursework chosen by students to meet their individual needs and interests.

Requirements


A. Biology


At least 44 credits in biology, with no more than 16 below the 300 level, to include:

Core Courses


Grades of C- (1.7) or better required in all used as prerequisites:

Writing Courses


Two biology writing courses, each with a grade of C (2.0) or better

C. Mathematics


One of the following:

One of the following concentrations:

F. Additional Requirements


All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences Bachelor of Science  degree, including:

  • General Education requirements  
  • Completion of a minimum of 124 credits, including at least 33 in upper division courses (numbered 300 or above)
  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better in biology and at UM-Flint overall

Students planning to enter a graduate or professional school should investigate requirements of the specific graduate or professional programs to which they intend to apply to avoid missing requirements beyond those covered in their biology degree.
