Prospective majors who enter with a substantial part of their introductory language completed in high school and those who intend to do graduate work in Spanish are strongly advised to begin a second language as early as possible in their college programs.

Students in this program are strongly encouraged to study in a Spanish-speaking country. See faculty advisors for recommendations of foreign study programs.

One of:

SPN 212 - Intermediate Spanish II (4)
, or equivalent proficiency

Requirements

A. Spanish (28 credits)

Twenty-eight credits in Spanish beyond the level of SPN 212 , or equivalent proficiency, to include:

SPN 291 - Laboratory of Spanish Pronunciation (1).
SPN 301 - Conversation and Composition I (3).
SPN 309 - Advanced Spanish Composition and Grammar (3)
One from:
SPN 310 - Understanding the Spanish-Speaking World: Spain (3)
SPN 319 - Understanding the Spanish World: Latin America (3)
One from:
SPN 311 - Survey of Spanish Literature: Middle Ages to 1700 (3)
SPN 314 - Survey of Spanish Literature: 1700 to Present (3)
One from:
SPN 318 - Survey of Spanish American Literature: Spanish Colony to Modernismo (3).
SPN 320 - Survey of Spanish American Literature: Twentieth Century (3).

A course in English literature or comparative literature approved by the advisor.

C. Additional Requirements

All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Bachelor of Arts degree, including General Education requirements and additional BA distribution requirements.
