School of Nursing (SON)
The University of Michigan-Flint School of Nursing RN to BSN Program is designed for the student who is a graduate of a state-approved nursing program and already holds an unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the United States.
Admission
Prospective students must file an application to the University through the University of Michigan-Flint Office of Undergraduate Admissions http://www.umflint.edu/admissions. Official copies of transcripts must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Proof of Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the United States must be validated in order to progress into select nursing courses and complete all degree requirements. Fifteen (15) University of Michigan-Flint credits are awarded upon validation of an unencumbered RN license within the United States. The University of Michigan-Flint has a revolving admission policy, which allows prospective students to be admitted in Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer. Before applying, out-of-state students, or those who may relocate during the program, should contact the School of Nursing to confirm that the University of Michigan-Flint is authorized to offer distance education in the student’s state of residence. The School of Nursing, in conjunction with the Office of Extended Learning, will determine the University’s status in that state.
University of Michigan-Flint students in a bachelor’s degree program are required to complete at least 120 credits including 45 UM-Flint credits (15 of which are granted for verification of RN licensure); in addition, the last 30 credits must be completed at UM-Flint. Students earning a second bachelor’s degree or simultaneous bachelor’s degrees should review pertinent information in the Academic Policies and Regulations section of this Catalog.
Progression in the Program
Students must earn grades of C+ (2.3) or better in all prerequisite, NUR and NSC coursework to fulfill degree requirements.
If applicable, requirements (such as annual tuberculosis testing, drug testing, medical equipment, background checks, health forms, immunizations, CPR certification, etc.) vary by experiential learning agency and are at the student’s expense. Students must meet health requirements and background check requirements as well as any other agency-specific requirements.
