Communication in Society Certificate

The basis of what makes us distinctly human is the ability to communicate and create language-based connections, yet as technology advances and humans become more physically distant, we begin to lose this essential aspect of human connection.  The Communication in Society Certificate provides an understanding of the different mediums of communication and connection, as well as the complexity of those connections.  With courses in communication studies, linguistics and psychology, the certificate provides an interdisciplinary approach to greater understanding of the complex and reciprocal nature of communication at the personal, relational and societal levels, and students gain skills necessary for success in the workplace and overall personal well-being.

The certificate is open to all students. It may be earned in conjunction with a degree program or as a stand-alone credential.  (Students pursuing a stand-alone credential are not eligible for federal financial aid and may not participate in Commencement.)  After the student applies for graduation, the certificate is posted to the student’s official transcript and an official diploma stating the area of the certificate is issued.
