For a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in history, the student is expected to complete a balanced program of studies in history, the other social sciences, and the humanities as approved by the advisor.

Requirements (120 credits)

A. Foundations (7 credits)

A foreign language course from ARB 112 , ASL 112 , CHN 112 , FRN 112 , GER 112 , SPN 112 ; or successful transfer of the second semester of a foreign language or demonstration of equivalent proficiency by examination

A course in US Diversity (US) or Global Studies (GS)

B. History (39 credits)

Thirty-nine or more credits in history, to include:

HIS 120 - United States to 1865 (3)
HIS 121 - United States since 1865 (3)
HIS 299 - Introduction to History (3)
HIS 301 - History Capstone Seminar (3) , normally elected in the senior year
Two from:
HIS 112 - World History to 1400 (3)
HIS 113 - World History: 1400 to 1900 (3)
HIS 114 - Twentieth Century World History (3)
A course in non-western history from:
HIS 336 - Africa in Modern Times, 1800 to Present (3)
HIS 339 - History of Mexico (3)
HIS 371 - Japan from Antiquity to 1300 (3)
HIS 376 - History of Modern China (3)
HIS 378 - Emergence of Japan as a Global Power (3)
HIS 383 - Japan: Age of Samurai (3)
Depending on its content, HIS 393 may also satisfy the non-western history requirement. Please consult with an advisor.
Six additional courses in history, including at least four at the 300 level or higher, so distributed as to give the student a comprehensive knowledge of several fields. Students should consult a department advisor prior to selecting these courses.
