Public Health Program (BSPH)

The Bachelor of Science in Public Health prepares students for a wide range of entry level public health positions. The coursework includes the foundational knowledge of public health practice (epidemiology, health policy, global health) and reflects the values of public health: community engagement, disease prevention, health promotion, and serving vulnerable populations.

The program’s major focus on health education prepares students to implement behavior modification and lifestyle changes for individuals, families and communities. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the competencies required to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.  

Prerequisites (4-7 credits)


The mathematics requirement and ENG 111 should be completed before other courses.

Requirements


A minimum of 124 credits, to include:

Capstone/Internship (3 credits)


A grade of B- (2.7) or better in one from:

PHHS Certificate


All requirements of one of the approved Public Health and Health Sciences certificate programs (at least 9 credits), currently:

Honors Requirements


For Honors Program students only:

Additional Requirements


Completion of Program Exit Survey for assessment purposes

Minimum of 30 major credits in residency

All University of Michigan-Flint graduation requirements  including General Education  requirements.


Minimum Credits for the Degree: 124 credits

Honors Program


All bachelor-degree-seeking students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply to the University of Michigan-Flint Honors Program .  Please contact the Honors Program Manager or the Honors Program Director for further information.
