Health Education (Master of Science)


Requirements. At least 39 credits, as follows:

  1. Health education foundations (19-21 credits).
    HCR 500 - Epidemiology.  (3) or HCR 501 - Seminar in Epidemiology.  (1)*  
    HED 540 - Health Education Theory and Strategies.  (3)
    HED 541 - Program Planning and Program Design.  (3)
    HED 542 - Administration and Management of Health Education Programs.  (3)
    HED 543 - Community Assessment.  (3)
    HED 544 - Psychosocial Aspects of Health.  (3)
    HED 562 - Cultural Competence in Health Care.  (3)
    *Students with grades of B (3.0) or better in PHS 315  may elect HCR 501  (1 cr.) in place of HCR 500  (3 cr.).
  2. Methods (13 credits).
    HCR 506 - Research Methods.  / PUB 506 - Research Methods.  (3) 
    HED 545 - Health Communication.  (3) 
    HED 546 - Evaluation of Health Education and Promotion Programs.  (3)
    HED 547 - Biostatistics for Health Professionals.  (4)
  3. Electives (3 credits).
    Selected with advisor.
  4. Internship/Practicum (3-6 credits).
    HED 590  or HED 591 . The internship is not required of those currently in professional health education positions.
  5. Thesis Preparation Seminar (0-1 credit).
    HED 594  (optional).
  6. Thesis/Applied Project (3 credits).
    HED 595  or HED 596 .

Transfer of Credit
Up to six graduate credits from an accredited university may be transferred and applied to the program.
