A. Foundation for analyzing literature and language (9 credits).

B. Language change in English (6 credits).
1. History of English. ENG 447 /LIN 447 .
2. Literature before 1800. One from: ENG 303 , ENG 310 , ENG 312 , ENG 315 , ENG 316 , ENG 317 , ENG 319 , ENG 326 , ENG 327 , ENG 329 , ENG 330 , ENG 364 .
C. Language and society (6 credits).
1. Language and variation. One from: COM 284 /LIN 284 /WGS 284 , ANT 290 /LIN 290 , ANT 335 /LIN 335 , ENG 409 /LIN 409 .
2. Ethnic, global or women’s literature. An ENG, AFA or THE course chosen in consultation with an advisor.
D. Linguistics electives (6 credits). Two LIN courses. (PSY 333 will also count toward this requirement).
E. Literature electives (6 credits). Two courses at the 300 level or higher.
F. Senior seminar (3 credits). ENG 400 .
G. Completion of an Individual Major Portfolio. Consult the Department for portfolio guidelines.
H. All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences Bachelor of Arts degree, including general education requirements and additional distribution requirements.
