By 2030, all baby boomers will be older than age 65, with older people projected to outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history (2017 National Population Projections).
As the population ages, the needs for people’s knowledge, social services, and policies for aging will grow. The Aging/Gerontology minor Specialist in Aging Minor can prepare individuals to work directly with older persons, providing services in the community and working on behalf of older persons in areas such as advocacy, research and teaching about aging.
Employment is available in community-based care industries, which include home health care services, services for the elderly and persons with disabilities, and community care facilities for the elderly. These industries are adding jobs at a rapid pace as the older population in the United States grows and seeks out affordable care options.
This interdisciplinary selection of courses complements majors in health care administration, business, communication, psychology and more.
