Mission and Assessment

The Africana Studies programs at the University of Michigan-Flint prepare students for the ever-demanding need to engage and function successfully in a diverse society. It is a multi and interdisciplinary field that provides a well-rounded education in the tradition of the liberal arts and sciences. A degree in Africana Studies will deepen students’ knowledge of Africa, African American and the African Diaspora experiences, and their understanding of the histories,  and contributions of the peoples of Africa and African American descent to world civilizations. The range of Africana Studies course offerings includes history, literature, political science, drama, sociology and economics.
