Health information technology (HIT) consists of the entry, transmission, process, extraction, analysis, and exchange of health-related data and information utilizing the hardware, software, and healthcare enterprise. Health information technicians work in various healthcare entities; using software packages (i.e., EMR and EHR), they contribute to data collection, data management, and data security of patients.
The Bachelor of Science in Health Information Technology curriculum uses the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) instructional module framework to prepare our students and alums to meet the standards and acquire the knowledge and skills to address the needs of the health care system and market considering the federal government guidelines and regulations.
Mission Statement
The BS in HIT prepares students to become Certified Health Information Technicians and apply Health Information Technology knowledge and skills in the healthcare system to enhance the quality of care and the quality of life of people.
For students seeking a graduate degree in Health Information Technology, this program prepares you for MS in Health Information Technology. Also, you can pursue a Public Health (MPH) program with a Health Administration track, a Health Care Management (MS) , a Public Administration (MPA) program with a Health Administration track, and a Business Administration (MBA) program with a Health Management track at the University of Michigan-Flint.
