The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program is uniquely designed for students with an interest in human health leading to graduate study, or career advancement. Gain the knowledge and skills you need through one of the following tracks:

  • Pre-Occupational Therapy Track: Preparing for entry into the University of Michigan-Flint’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate program (OPT) https://www.umflint.edu/graduateprograms/occupational-therapy-otd/
  • Pre-Physical Therapy Track: Preparing for entry into the University of Michigan-Flint’s Physical Program (DPT). https://www.umflint.edu/graduateprograms/physical-therapy-entry-level-dpt/
  • Pre-Physician Assistant Track: Uniquely designed as preparation for the University of Michigan-Flint’s Master of Science Physician Assistant Program (PA) https://www.umflint.edu/graduateprograms/physician-assistant-ms/
  • Environmental Health and Safety Track: Prepares graduates for positions in public sector settings, including local and state health departments; and in private sector positions such as chemical waste management, and workplace safety
  • Pre-Medicine Track*: Prepares graduates for professional programs in medicine
  • Pre-Dental Track*: Prepares graduates for professional programs in dentistry
  • Pre-Pharmacy Track*: Prepares graduates for professional programs in pharmacy
  • Pre-Optometry Track*: Prepares graduates for professional programs in optometry
  • Pre-Chiropractic Track*: Prepares graduates for professional programs in chiropractic 

*For this track, careful course selection beyond B.S. in Health Sciences requirements should be made after consulting current, available information from the specific university professional program of interest.

 

Health Sciences/Occupational Therapy 3+3

The Health Sciences BS/Occupation Therapy 3+3 is designed for those students interested in a Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree. The curriculum allows students to earn a BS in Health Sciences & a Doctoral in Occupation Therapy with potentially 29 fewer credits than if completing the degree programs separately.

The accelerated pathway doesn’t guarantee acceptance to the Occupational Therapy program. The degrees are independent; each is awarded when completed.

 

Health Sciences/Physical Therapy 3+3

The Health Sciences BS/Physical Therapy 3+3 is designed for those students interested in a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The curriculum allows students to earn a BS in Health Sciences & a Doctoral in Physical Therapy with potentially 33 fewer credits than if completing the degree programs separately.

The accelerated pathway doesn’t guarantee acceptance to the Physical Therapy program. The degrees are independent; each is awarded when completed.

 

Mission Statement

The mission of the B.S. in Health Sciences is to provide a strong foundation in the health and human sciences for students intending to pursue professional graduate health science programs. The combined program components in basic science and health science will enable students to become effective and productive health professionals who value the diversity of the various communities in which they work and serve.
