The Bachelor of Science in Physics is designed to meet the needs and interest of students planning to continue their studies in physics or related fields at the graduate level. It calls for computer proficiency, more depth in physics than the Bachelor of Arts program, a sequence of cognate courses complementary to physics and an independent research project.

Prerequisites. (32-41 credits).

The student having a strong preparation in high school physics and mathematics and planning to concentrate in physics normally begins the study of physics with PHY 243 in the second semester. A student lacking this preparation should begin with PHY 143 , after consultation with the advisor. The student should begin the sequence MTH 121 - MTH 122 as a freshman in order to meet the corequisite for PHY 245 without delay.
PHY 243 , PHY 245 (10 credits).
CHM 161 , CHM 162 , CHM 160 (7 credits).
MTH 121 , MTH 122 , MTH 220 , MTH 222 (15 credits).
Proficiency in a high level computer language. CIS 127 , CSC 127 , CIS 175 , CSC 275 and CIS 275 , or a language as approved by the advisor (up to 9 credits).

Requirements. (50 credits).

PHY 333 , PHY 343 , PHY 344 , PHY 351 , PHY 367 , PHY 374 , PHY 433 , (the first election for 2 credits), PHY 433 (the second election, a senior research project, for 3 credits), PHY 470 (25 credits).
At least five additional credits from: PHY 291 (may be reelected to a total of 4 credits),PHY 303 , PHY 321 , PHY 322 , PHY 354 , PHY 363 , PHY 375 , PHY 354 , PHY 391 . (5 credits).
MTH 305 and nine additional credits from MTH 329 , MTH 357 , MTH 374 , MTH 456 , MTH 470 (12 credits).
At least 8 credits in a planned cognate sequence, chosen from mathematics, computer science, chemistry, engineering science, physical geography, biology, or another area, proposed by the student and agreed upon by the program faculty. (8 credits).
All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Bachelor of Science degree, including General Education Requirements .
