Clinical/Community Program in Psychology BS

The Program in Clinical/Community Psychology is designed to provide intensive pre-professional training to prepare the student for direct application of principles and practices of psychology to community problems or for graduate education in human service areas of psychology or other applied disciplines. It offers a balance between theoretical and practical skills.

Students with a 2.5 GPA overall and a 2.7 GPA in psychology may apply to the Psychology Department for admission in the sophomore year (or thereafter) after completing PSY 100  and PSY 309 .

Prerequisite. MTH 111  or equivalent preparation as measured by mathematics placement exam.

Requirements.

1. All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Bachelor of Science  degree, including General Education Requirements . General education requirements in the natural sciences may not include courses in psychology; courses in biology are recommended.
2. At least 44 credit hours in psychology including:
   1. Methodology (12 credits).
      PSY 201 , PSY 301 ; a laboratory course selected from PSY 306 , PSY 310 , PSY 327 , PSY 351 , PSY 380 , PSY 384 , PSY 386 .
   2. Core (9 credits).
      PSY 336 , PSY 340 , PSY 382 .
   3. Theoretical Issues (6 credits).
      Two from: PSY 326 ; PSY 334  or BUS 341 ; PSY 345  or PSY 346  (3 credits) or PSY 347 ; PSY 362 .
   4. Practical Issues (6 credits).
      Two from: PSY 328 , PSY 350 , PSY 375 , PSY 381 , PSY 389 .
   5. Experiential/Thesis (11 credits).
      PSY 360  (taken twice), PSY 396 , PSY 397 , PSY 398 .
3. Satisfactory performance on departmental comprehensive educational evaluation.

Appropriate courses outside psychology are selected in conjunction with the academic advisor. To best prepare students consistent with their individual career goals, attention of students is directed to: Political Science , Economics , Public Administration , Criminal Justice , Sociology , Anthropology , Social Work , Substance Abuse Treatment , and Health Care .
