Requirements
- A minimum of 128 credits, including all School of Education and Human Services General Education requirements and University of Michigan-Flint graduation requirements .
- Grades of C (2.0) or better in all Pre-Education coursework (years 1-2); grades of B- (2.7) or better in all courses in all Elementary Education cohort program coursework (years 3-5).
- Passing score on the measure of basic skills required by the Michigan Department of Education and completion of the Pre-Education curriculum required prior to application to the program.
- GPAs of B- (2.7) or better in the program, in all minors and/or specializations, and at UM-Flint overall are required for progression through and completion of the program. (Note the Education Department uses grades in transferred courses in its GPA computations.)
- Approved application for Student Teaching Internship, and requirements in the section General Requirements for Teacher Certification . (Certification Track).
- Courses in First aid and in Adult/Child CPR taken from a state-approved vendor: http://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-5683_14795-118868–,00.html. (Certification Track).
- Throughout the program teacher education candidates will be assessed on dispositions a minimum of four times and complete a dispositions interview. Those who do not meet dispositional expectations may be required to fulfill a professional development plan and/or may be removed from the program.
Pre-Education
Prior to entering the program, students must complete the following courses, typically in the first two years. A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required in each course.
