Radiation Therapy Program (BS)

Admission Requirements


Acceptance to the University of Michigan-Flint.  The application for general admission may be completed online at http://www.umflint.edu.

Completion of a minimum of sixteen hours of observation at Michigan Medicine Radiation Therapy Department. All clinic observation hours will be arranged through the Program Director.

Completion of the supplemental Radiation Therapy program application, available at http://go.umflint.edu/radiationtherapysupplementalapplication.  Three references are required: one academic, one professional and one character reference.

Prerequisites


The following courses may be taken at UM-Flint, or equivalent courses may be transferred from another accredited institution.

A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required in each course.

B. Clinical Requirements


After being admitted to the professional program and prior to beginning the clinical component of the program, the student is required to have a complete physical exam. Immunizations must be up-to-date and documented on the physical form by a physician. 

Students must document current CPR certification and maintain AHA CPR certification for health providers while in the program.

The student must also satisfy the following criteria:

  • Sufficient strength to assist patients in transferring from a wheelchair or cart to the treatment couch.
  • Sufficient strength, coordination and dexterity to lift weights weighing up to 45 pounds to a height of 5’5”.
  • Visually monitor patients in dimmed light; visually monitor patients via video monitors during treatment.
  • Hear various equipment and background sounds during equipment operations.
  • Communicate a clear and concise manner to people in various departments.
  • Be physically, intellectually, and emotionally able to respond to emergency situations.
  • Capable of handling stressful situations, making informed decisions, and giving emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Understand and apply clinical instructions given from departmental personnel.

Minimum Credits for the Degree: 124 credits

Honors Program


All bachelor-degree-seeking students with GPAs of 3.5 or higher are eligible to apply to the University of Michigan-Flint Honors Program.  Please contact the Honors Program Manager or the Honors Program Director for further information.
