Nursing Leadership and Management Certificate


The University of Michigan-Flint School of Nursing Undergraduate Certificate in Nursing Leadership and Management is designed for the student with a degree from an accredited BSN program or is completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from UM-Flint through either the RN to BSN, Traditional BSN, or Accelerated Second Degree BSN program. The certificate will prepare students for positions of leadership in their organizations.

The certificate may be earned in conjunction with a degree program or as a stand-alone credential.  (Students pursuing a stand-alone credential are not eligible for federal financial aid and may not participate in Commencement.)  After the student applies for graduation, the certificate is posted to the student’s official transcript and an official diploma stating the area of the certificate is issued.

Admission Information

Admission Prospective students must file an application to the University of Michigan-Flint through the University’s Office of Undergraduate admissions. (http://www.umflint.edu/admissions) and be admitted to either the RN to BSN, Traditional BSN, or Accelerated Second Degree BSN program. Students who hold a degree from an accredited BSN program will be admitted as a transfer student. Official copies of transcripts must be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. RN to BSN program students and students holding a BSN from an accredited BSN program must also provide proof of an unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States which must be validated in order to progress into select nursing courses and complete all certificate requirements.

Requirements (9-13 credits)


A minimum grade of C (2.0) is required in each course.

B. Additional Requirements


Students are required to participate in periodic program assessment, which enables the School of Nursing to test the efficacy of the curriculum.

A minimum of 9 credits in the program must be completed at UM-Flint. 

Coursework older than 3 years must be reviewed by the Nursing Department for content alignment with current certificate requirements.
