POL 540 - Political Economy of Development

An overview of the major theoretical approaches to the study of development and of the main issues debated in the literature; the political context of development and contemporary economic problems and policy choices in developing countries. Topics may include: impact of processes of industrialization and globalization on social and political life; mining and agricultural development; alternative development strategies; the role of multinational corporations, international financial and trade organizations in shaping economic performance and development. Not open to students with credit for POL 330 .
