Overview of the history of innovation in the United States and its place within the American character as a complex process of networks and representative institutions.  Topics include development of structures and policies to support systematic innovation, specific innovations and their impact, the legal and political framework of innovation, the corporatization of innovation, innovation and the war, and myths of philosophies of innovation.  Students perform historical research, primary source analysis, and evidence-based writing to analyze patterns of technological innovation and prepare for further study of innovation and entrepreneurship across disciplines.
