Mechanical Engineering (MSE) (Currently on Moratorium)

Engineering (EGR) information  

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) Mechanical Engineering program has been placed on moratorium status and is not currently accepting new students. Students who have already declared this major will be allowed to complete their program.

 

The Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) Mechanical Engineering program provides students with a strong background in principles of mechanical engineering and a thorough knowledge of the latest technologies in the field which extends beyond the undergraduate experience. The program is designed to meet the unique needs of working professionals.

Transfer of Credit

With approval of the Engineering Graduate Coordinator, students may transfer in, or elect as graduate non-candidates for degree (NCFD), up to six credits of graduate-level courses in engineering.  See Transfer of Credit in the Graduate Study section for more information.

Requirements


B. Electives (12 credits)


  • Four graduate-level EGR courses, or three graduate-level EGR courses and an AUE course. A maximum of 9 credits in courses taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels (currently EGR 510, EGR 551), and a minimum grade of B (3.0) in each one.

C. Option of Choice (6 credits)


One of the following options:

Thesis Option


Students electing the thesis option must secure a thesis advisor and enroll in two thesis courses. Successful completion and oral defense of the thesis is required to earn credit for these courses. All these must conform to university standards.

Note: Independent study course are not allowed toward program requirements under the thesis option.

Non-Thesis Option


  • Two additional EGR or AUE graduate level courses and satisfactory performance on the master’s level exit examination.

Note: Only one independent study course is allowed toward program requirements under the non-thesis option. Also see the note in Item B.
