Occupational Therapy is a growing field in the area of rehabilitation medicine. Occupational therapists work with clients to promote health and well-being through occupation. UM-Flint offers an Occupational Therapy program (OTD) leading to a doctorate degree. Therapists in this field work in various for-profit organizations such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and private practices. Hence, this dual program will complement the OTD program with business knowledge and skills to improve the effectiveness and operational success of these organizations, as well as to promote entrepreneurial initiatives of occupational therapy professionals in finding business solutions to everyday issues they observe during their practices. UM-Flint has a long history of producing successful Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduates in their fields, including healthcare, through an AACSB-International accredited program since 1981. The OTD program has been granted candidacy status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
The curriculum allows the OTD student or graduate to apply up to 12 specified credits toward both degrees. The degrees are independent; each is awarded when completed with specified credits accepted for the second degree after the first has been awarded. MBA program courses are offered in a variety of formats: online, on-campus, and mixed mode Net+. The student applies for admission to both degree programs independently. OTD students will be granted GMAT waivers for admission to the MBA program.
