As use of big data gains importance in the healthcare industry, health professionals are increasingly expected to understand aspects of data use and application, and employers are seeking healthcare professionals with in-depth knowledge and understanding of healthcare data sources and types and the systems that drive them.  Not only can these professionals aid in the collection and analysis of patient and health information, they can turn healthcare data into meaningful insights used both to improve the overall health of patients, including diagnosis and treatment, and the speed and efficiency of processes within agencies and organizations.

The graduate certificate in Health Data Analytics is a 13-credit interdisciplinary offering of the Computer Science, Physics & Engineering and Public Health and Health Sciences departments. The certificate can be completed in just three semesters, and provides students skills in data analysis, data reporting, performance improvement, and related health care measurements they can use to inform organizational decisions.  The program is offered in a hybrid format; students can engage in distance learning or attend traditional face-to-face classes.  (Computer science courses are offered via distance learning in a cyber classroom allowing for class sessions to be taught in a traditional face-to-face format and automatically recorded for student access online at any time.)
