Applications of the principles of mechanics of materials and other engineering sciences to the design of such machine elements as shafts, fasteners, gears, springs, bearings, clutches, chain and belt drives; analysis of functional and performance requirements; failure theories and their design criteria. Impact loading, stress concentration, and fatigue. Students complete a mechanical engineering design project at the end of semester. Graded ABCDE
