Examination of the literatures of exploration, colonization, slavery, Reconstruction, modern alienation and displacement; immigration; global war; race, class, gender and sexual identity and rights; and advancing technology. Students read non-fiction, poetry, and long and short fiction from the traditional canon and from women, indigenous peoples, and people of color. Graded ABCDE
