Admission

A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in computer science and information systems courses is required for acceptance into the BS/MS program. The student interested in the BS/MS program should apply junior year. Upon completion of the requirements for the BS portion of the program, the student is awarded the BS degree. Upon completion of the remaining 21 credits in the MS in CSIS program, the student is awarded the MS degree.

Time Limit for Degree Completion

All requirements of the MS program must be completed within six calendar years of initial enrollment in the program.

Requirements

All requirements of the College of Arts and Science Bachelor of Science degree, including General Education requirements.

Bachelor of Science (115 credits*)

All requirements of the Computer Science General and Honors Programs (BS) or the Computer Information Systems and Honors Programs (BS) with the exception that the *student elects 9 credits at the graduate level to satisfy the undergraduate elective course requirements.

Master of Science (30 credits)

To complete the requirements for the Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Systems the student completes 21 additional graduate credits after the 124 credits required for the BS degree as follows:

Computer Science Concentration

CSC 535 - Advanced Computer Networking (3)
CSC 565 - Computer System Architecture (3)
CSC 575 - Algorithm and Complexity Analysis (3)
CSC 582 - Advanced Database Concepts and Emerging Applications (3)
Nine additional credits in CSC courses at the graduate level, which may include:
CSC 595 - Master’s Thesis I (3)
CSC 596 - Master’s Thesis II (3)

Computer Information Systems Concentration

Six credits from:

Nine credits of designated electives from the Business Information Systems Track or the Health Systems Track:

Honors Program Requirements

Prospective Honors Program students are required to complete all of the above Computer Science and Information Systems requirements and University of Michigan-Flint Honors Program requirements.

Honors Program students are urged to acquaint themselves as early as possible with the requirements above as well as with the particular procedures for acceptance into the Computer Science and Information Systems Honors Program.
