Art History and Criticism Program and Honors Programs (BA) (Currently on Moratorium)


Art and Art History (ART/ARH) information   

The Art History and Criticism (BA) as well as the honors program has been placed on moratorium status and is not currently accepting new students.  Students who have already declared this major will be allowed to complete their program. 

 

The Art History program is designed to prepare capable, well-rounded students with superior understanding of art history and visual culture and skills in visual analysis, research and writing.  Graduates of the program are prepared for excellence in professional employment and graduate studies, and possess a commitment to service through knowledge and cultural tolerance.

Requirements


A. Art History


Advanced Art History (24 credits)


24 credits from:  200-, 300- and 400- level ARH courses

Internship (1 credit)


Senior Thesis (2 credits)


Senior Capstone (3 credits)


B. Cognate Requirements


Studio Art (9 credits)


Foreign Languages (16 credits)


Communication (3 credits)


Philosophy (3 credits)


C. Additional Requirements


All requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Bachelor of Arts  degree, including General Education  and additional BA distribution requirements .

Note


A minor in a foreign language is recommended.
 

Minimum Credits for the Degree: 120 credits

Honors Program Requirements


Prospective Honors Program students are required to complete all of the above Art History and Criticism requirements and University of Michigan-Flint Honors Program  requirements.

Honors Program students are urged to acquaint themselves as early as possible with the requirements above as well as with the particular procedures for acceptance into the Art History and Criticism Honors Program.
