Graduate Certificate in Security (Currently on Moratorium)

The Graduate Certificate in Security has been placed on moratorium status and is not currently accepting new students. Students who have already declared this certificate will be allowed to complete their program.

This four-course certificate program is designed to provide working computer science and computer information systems professionals the opportunity to take post-baccalaureate courses directly related to the security industry. The program provides essential knowledge in areas related to security, cryptography and network security, all critical to this important domain of computer science.

Admission to the Program

The program has a rolling admissions policy, meaning that a student can apply at any time and be notified of admission within 2 to 4 weeks. Conditional admission may be granted.

Applications for admission are available from the Office of Graduate Programs. Admission to the program is not granted until the application materials are submitted and reviewed.

Admission Criteria

Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.
Written statement indicating personal goals for graduate study.

Priority Application Deadline

August 1 for Fall entry
November 15 for Winter entry
March 15 for Spring entry
May 15 for Summer entry

International applications are due:
May 1 for Fall entry
September 1 for Winter entry

Prerequisites

Students with insufficient preparation may be required to take some of the following prerequisites courses:

A. Mathematics

MTH 118 - Calculus for Management and Social Sciences (4)

B. Programming

All students are required to take a programming proficiency test and, based on its score, may be required to take:

CSC 500 - Intensive Programming and Computer-Based Problem Solving (3)

C. Additional Computer Science Courses

Students without a Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Security, or related bachelor’s degree are required to take:

CSC 335 - Computer Networks I (3)
CSC 375 - Data Structures (3)

Requirements

CSC 535 - Advanced Computer Networking (3)
CSC 549 - Ethics and Security Management (3)
CSC 570 - Cyber Security (3)
MTH 558 - Mathematical Cryptography (3)

Note

All requirements must be completed within six calendar years of initial enrollment in the program.

An overall grade point average of at least 3.0 is required for program completion. A grade point average less than 3.0 constitutes sufficient basis for probationary status and, if not improved, dismissal from the program. Students with probationary status must make progress toward good standing to continue in the program.
